How HappyTracks began

A conversation between father and son that became a family project

HappyTracks started with a simple conversation between us.

I'm Valentin. I'm 11, and I really love music.

Not just the songs everyone already knows, but new artists, different styles, tracks my friends recommend at school. At some point, Spotify Kids just wasn't enough anymore. I kept searching for songs that weren't there. It felt like standing in front of a huge library with the door only half open.

And I'm Michael, his dad.

I could see his frustration. He wasn't asking for 'everything.' He just wanted access to music. At the same time, as parents, we were not ready to hand over the full Spotify app with podcasts, videos, and unlimited browsing.

We talked about it a lot. What bothered Valentin most was not that we wanted rules. It was that the rules felt arbitrary. What concerned us most was not the music itself. It was everything else attached to it.

So we tried to find a better way.

Instead of choosing between too limited and completely open, we decided to build something in between.
